From our office you can see a great part of Metropolitan Manila. The view is great during Sunrise and Sunset. Some of my colleagues tell me the view is also spectacular during New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, today the view was tragic. A neighborhood had been burning for some time. Two of our co-workers lived in the area - one lost a house another almost lost their house. The fire is still raging. It is said the Fire fighters cannot enter the neighborhood because the roads are too narrow.

The place is Punta, Santa Ana, Pandacan, Manila.

Here are the snapshots of the fire that consumed as of now fifty houses.

My friend at Another Hundred Years Hence recently discovered that Google Earth has new high resolution maps of Metro Manila and selected areas in the Philippines. And he recently set-up a wiki focused on landmarks in the Philippines seen on Google Earth.

The Santo Nino Photo at Ed's photoblog My Everyday Manila reminded me of my nephew's penchant for Santo Ninos,Angels and Saints a few years before.

As you can well see my other nephew "improved" , with a crayon or pen, the portrait of my Grandparents, Father, Aunt and Uncle. Portraits like this used to be a cottage industry of sorts. I used to see a lot of those in Filipino houses as well.

My nephews when we went to Paco Park. This place was once a cemetery and they even have some of the "apartments" occuppied. In this circular park you will see the resting place of Jose Rizal and Gomburza (Padre Gomez, Burgos and Zamora).

Taken when we visited Rizal Park's light and sound show. Unfortunately, it is not well maintained...correction not maintained at all. In the photos are my companions in most of my ramblings, my nephews.

Introductions:

My eldest nephew, Thirdee. The picture was taken at Greenbelt we were waiting for the pizza. He had just had his haircut most of the people at the house do not like his hair done like that but whenever he goes to the barber with me he always has this cut. Intelligent and a quick talker, Thirdee can be a challenge to most adults.

At present, my youngest nephew - Hansie. Probably the huskiest of the two. He likes to eat a lot and that goes without saying. He also likes watch cartoons of Dora, Tom & Jerry and Futurama. Each saturday he knocks on my door and asks if he can watch his cartoons. The boy's appetite is only surpassed by his sweet disposition.

Malacanang declare July 25 a holiday, one of the reasons for the declaration was GMA wanted the people to enjoy the day and have time to listen and see the SONA. End result was Makati was a ghost town. But there were some of us were still working in Makati, no rest for the wicked.
